Revelation 5:1-11 (NKJV) 1 And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. 2 Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?” 3 And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it. 4 So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it. 5 But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.” 6 And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne. 8 Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, 10 And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth.” 11 Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands,
Introduction Review From Religion is Boring:
1. Making simple the things of God yet keeping simple from becoming boring.
2 Corinthians 1:12 (NKJV) For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience that we conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, and more abundantly toward you.
1.1. Not fleshy wisdom but Heavenly grace.
1.2. A lot of things in life good for us can become boring:
1.2.1. Ela... Eating broccoli every night might seem simple and boring. When a jelly donut with sprinkles looks a lot more exciting.
1.2.2. This pulpit might be too simple and old fashion. Just good ole fashion wood with some stain on it. Maybe titanium or carbon or some more exciting finish. Or if I was keeping up with the times I should have a small round table and stool.
1.3. This same mentality filters into everything.
1.4. Without pressing in the Word could become too simple and loose our interest. Let’s find something else to read. 1.5. Young Timothy “stir up the gift of God.”
1.6. Just keep looking.
1.7. Seeing the Lord makes all the difference.
1.8. The longer you look the more you see.
2. Having worship always in our heart, our hands, and ready.
Rev.5:8,9 - Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song...
2.1. Each having a harp.
2.2. Worship was in their heart and in their hand.
2.3. I am back to thinking it is time to learn to play an instrument.
2.4. Ela... I learned guitar in a season of need and went around playing it in worship sets in China. But maybe I will learn to play the harp.
3. Bowls Filled With The Prayers of the Saints.
Rev.5:8,9 - Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song...
3.1. Have you ever wonder what is happening with all your prayers.
3.1.1. There are golden bowls before the Lord filled with prayers.
3.1.2. Every prayer being stored up to be burnt as incense before the Lord.
3.2. The earthly altar of Incense
Exodus 30:1-10 (NKJV) 1 “You shall make an altar to burn incense on; you shall make it of acacia wood.
6 And you shall put it before the veil that is before the ark of the Testimony, before the mercy seat that is over the Testimony, where I will meet with you. 7 “Aaron shall burn on it sweet incense every morning; when he tends the lamps, he shall burn incense on it.
8 And when Aaron lights the lamps at twilight, he shall burn incense on it, a perpetual incense before the LORD throughout your generations.
3.2.1. In the earthly tabernacle one of the jobs was to keep the incense burning on the altar.
3.2.2. Well the incense in revelation becomes know to be the *prayers of the saints.*
3.2.3. Ela... what is your favorite aroma in your home. There was a preacher decades ago who was on to something... he carried around a v
3.3. The heavenly altar
Rev. 5:6 And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain,
Revelation 8:3 (NKJV)
3 Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.
3.3.1. Like a fragrant incense rising before the Lord.
4. They sang a new song.
Revelation 5:8 (NKJV) Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
Revelation 5:9 (NKJV) And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
4.1. Fell down before the Lamb.
4.1.1. It wasn’t just a worship song.
4.1.2. It wasn’t just praying.
4.1.3. It was something new.
4.2. It was a new song.
4.2.1. When the songs of the saints are no longer just songs but become the prayers of the saints.
4.2.2. When the prayers of the saints are no longer just prayers but become the worship songs of the saints.
4.2.3. Our songs and our prayers being stored up become a fragrant aroma incense before the Lord.
4.3. “I will sing... sing a new song...”
4.4. “The twenty-four elders and the four animals had harps and bowls and were singing a new song. The preaching of the Old Testament joined with the New reveals the Christian people singing a new song, that is, the proclaiming of their public confession. It is new that the Son of God became man; it is new that he was given over into death by men; it is new that he rose again on the third day; it is new that he ascended in the body into heaven; it is new that he gives the forgiveness of sins to men; it is new that men are sealed with the Holy Spirit; it is new that they receive the priestly service of supplication and await a kingdom of such immense if that statement is true then promises.”
5. Worshipping in spirit and in truth.
John 4:19-24 (NKJV) 19 The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
5.1. The hour has come.
5.2. Father in seeking.
5.3. Prayer Word worshippers.
5.4. Harps in hand, prayers ascending Falling on our face before the Lord.
5.5. Don’t say well I’ll just wait until that day.
5.6. Today is that day.
