  • The Great Co-Mission With Christ in the Gospel – A Discipleship Message
  • Today we will begin with the great partnership God has made with His people.
  • I will put my Spirit in you, give you a new heart, and walk with you as you fulfill

    my plan on earth.

  • The Great Co-Mission:

    Main Text:

Mark 16:14-20 (ESV) 14 Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. 15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” 19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.

1. The Co-Mission is Partnership with Christ in the spreading of the Gospel.

Philippians 1:3-6 (ESV) 3 I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, 4 always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. 6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

1.1. In partnership together.
1.1.1. Let’s talk about what partnership is…

1.1.1.1. At the core of any partnership is each member bringing something of value into the relationship…

1.1.1.2. if one party does not bring anything then the partnership will likely not last.

1.1.2. A partnership can be:
1.1.2.1. valuable fellowship, can be sharing what one has, can be a gift jointly contributed.
1.1.2.2. to work together, help in work, be partner in labour, to put forth power together with and thereby to assist…

1.1.2.3. Sometimes the partner brings capital, other times a partner brings skill, and other times a product…
1.1.2.4. every partnership brings something.
1.1.2.5. Ela… my story of my short lived carpentry life. Best ability is dependability “you show up every day”. 1.2. Jesus brings to partnership:

1.2.1. Faith-Hope-Love demonstrated through shed blood, forgiveness, salvation, power, His Word: conviction, encouragement, peace of mind,

1.3. What we bring to the partnership:
1.3.1. Our life: demonstrated through: humility, willingness, availability, time, our gifting and resources the Lord has placed in our life.

2. A partnership that we cannot boast in.

1 Corinthians 9:15-18 (NKJV) 16 For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel! 17 For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship. 18 What is my reward then? That when I preach the gospel, I may present the gospel of Christ without charge, that I may not abuse my authority in the gospel. 19 For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more;

2.1. A partnership of necessity.

2.1.1. The necessity is ours.

2.1.1.1. A necessity imposed by the circumstance of salvation. 2.1.1.2. “Declare the praises of Him who called us out of darkness and into the light”
2.1.2. The necessity of Paul in the Gospel was to preach, but for others the necessity might be for:

2.1.2.1. Some teach
2.1.2.2. Some care
2.1.2.3. Some show up

2.1.2.4. Some generously give
2.1.2.5.Some administrate
2.1.2.6. Among other necessities in the partnership with Christ in the Gospel.
2.2. Partnership of free will – If I do this on my own will “I have a reward”

1 Corinthians 9:17 For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship.

2.2.1. Rewarded for preaching Christ.
2.2.1.1. For those who live their life preaching Christ can have even more assurance of God’s provision for their life. 2.2.1.2. Ela… It is still a mindset of the people and Christians that somehow becoming a preacher means that you will be eating soup-rice and living in a shanty. Double honor is due to the called preacher of the Gospel executing their call.

2.2.1.3. It is a good feeling to fulfill our call to duty. And it is ok to feel good about doing something for the Gospel. It does not have to be miserable.

2.3. Partnership of stewardship
2.3.1. If I do not want to partner we still have stewardship responsibility.

2.3.2. But if against our will we are still entrusted with a stewardship.
2.3.3. Serve the Gospel.
2.3.4. Stretch yourself.
2.3.5. Eyes that see the needs.

3. The mission of the partnership is disciple making.

3.1. To Go saturate the world with the good news.
3.1.1. Lead people to a decision…
3.1.2. Lead people into obedience…
3.1.3. Being filled and moving in the power of the Holy Spirit 3.1.4. Disciples making disciples

3.1.5. We all need to be in discipleship spaces.

3.1.6. We are all learning to follow everything.
3.2. Partnership with our Church in the spreading Gospel.

Philippians 4:15-17 (ESV) 15 And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. 16 Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. 17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit.

3.2.1. Much, though not all, of Gospel partnership happens within and through our local Church.

3.2.2. Giving and receiving.
3.2.3. Sending help to ensure that the Gosple mission of Paul would be sustained.
3.2.4.Paul gave of his life, time, preaching and teaching to the Church and in turn the Church made sure he was equipped with what he needed to keep pressing forward. 3.3. Teaching people to read the Word for themselves.

3.3.1. So much of health and fitness is diet. 3.3.2. So much of life is all about the intake.

]3.3.3. You can get yourself into a real bad way by inputting to much of the wrong and not enough of the right.

3.3.4. Developing a hunger for the Word of God. 3.4. Teaching people to be planted in a local Church.

3.4.1. Church life being a staple in your life. 3.5. Teaching, leading and living by example

3.5.1. Much of discipleship is caught by observation.

Philippians 3:17 (NKJV) Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern.

1 Timothy 4:12 (NKJV) Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Reminded of the Gospel preached.

1 Corinthians 15:1-2 (ESV) 1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.

4.1.  Be reminded of the good news.

4.1.1.  Look how far he has brought you.

4.1.2.  Look at what you have been delivered from.

4.1.3.  Look at the hope we have in our heart as compared to before we had received the Gospel.

4.2.  Rewarded by Gospel.

4.2.1. = a reward for good tidings
4.2.2. There’s a reward for those who preach

4.2.3. A reward for those who receive.
4.2.4. A reward for those who stand

4.3. We are being saved.

1 Corinthians 15:1-2 (ESV) 1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word

Matthew 7:21-23 (NKJV) 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

4.3.1. Preaching, receiving, standing, being saved.

4.3.2. We are saved, yet we are not saved yet.

4.3.3. We shall be saved.

4.4.  Doing the will of God.
4.4.1. Teaching them to obey everything.

4.4.2. But by grace.

4.5.  “I worked harder than any of them”
