Planted

James Weidner III   -

1. God planted a garden.

Genesis 2:1-12 (NKJV) 1 Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made. 4 This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, 5 before any plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown. For the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground; 6 but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground. 7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. 8 The LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. 9 And out of the ground the LORD God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

1.1. The garden of the Lord was not part of the 6 days of creation.
1.2. All aspects of creation were spoke forth “let there be” , except, man was formed.

Gen. 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. 1.3. And a garden was planted. 8 The LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.
1.4. The Lord was intentionally planted by the hand of the Lord.
1.5. Planting is a task that the Lord God takes very on very personally.

2. A tree planted by the waters.

Psalms 1: (NKJV) 1 Blessed is the man. Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper. 4 The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

2.1. The righteous person will be a planted person.
2.2. Just like that first garden the Lord Himself comes and plants this individual.
2.3. Blessed is the man:

2.3.1. Blessed to be planted by the river of God. 2.3.2. Blessed by being a fruit bearer.
2.3.3. Blessed by not burning out or becoming dry. 2.3.4. Blessed by walking in the favor of the lord.

3. Our roots are seeking the water of life.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NKJV) 7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD. 8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.

3.1. Blessed with no fear or anxiety.
3.2. Will not stop being fruitful all year long.

3.2.1. It is not natural for a tree to produce fruit all year long. 3.2.2. So now the promise is supernatural fruit bearing. 3.2.3. Which means bearing fruit when all the season or circumstances says that you should not be bearing.

4. Planted in the House of the Lord.

Psalms 92:12-15 (NKJV) 12 The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13 Those who are planted in the house of the LORD Shall flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing, 15 To declare that the LORD is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

4.1. The Lord plants us in the House of God.
4.2. Only the Lord can plant or in some cases transplant.

Matthew 15:13 (NKJV) But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.

4.3. Plants that end up being uprooted because they transplanted themselves. Were not the planting of the Lord.
4.4. Those who are planted will flourish.
4.5. Think about the House of God as the soil that we are planted in.

4.6.As long as the soil is good, the tree is planted, it is watered and given light it grows!

5. They devoted themselves to.

Acts 2:42 (ESV) And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

1 Corinthians 16:13-16 (NKJV) 13 Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. 14 Let all that you do be done with love. 15 I urge you, brethren—you know the household of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves to the ministry of the saints— 16 that you also submit to such, and to everyone who works and labors with us.

5.1. Devoted
5.1.1. to teaching

5.1.2. Devoted to fellowship.
5.1.3. assiduously: in a way that involves great care and attention to detail:

5.1.4. to be earnest towards, i.e. (to a thing) to persevere, be constantly diligent, or (in a place) to attend assiduously all the exercises, or (to a person) to adhere closely to (as a servitor): — attend (give self) continually (upon), continue (in, instant in, with), wait on (continually).

5.2. Showing up and being present.
5.3. Enough for it to be considered devoted

6. Rooted, built up, and established.

Colossians 2:6-7 (NKJV) 6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

Ephesians 3:16-18 (NKJV) 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—

6.1. Being rooted brings comprehension. 6.2. Being uprooted drains life.
6.3. Abiding and bearing mature fruit.

John 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
