All The Promises
2 Corinthians 1:20 (ESV) For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. 21 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, 22 who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
1. All the Promises of God are Yes in Him!
Acts 2:39 (NKJV) For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
1.1. We can utter Amen because we know He is faithful and true.
1.1.1. We know He is faithful and true only because He has poured the Spirit of Promises into our hearts.
1.1.2. So we say Amen – so be it.
1.2. May every promise of God come to past in my life.
1.3. But how are all the promises, yes?
1.3.1. They are Yes in Him.
Colossians 3:3 (NKJV) For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
1.3.2. The Promises are Yes in Him.
Acts 17:28 (NKJV) for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’
John 15:4 (NKJV) Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
1.4. The abiding presence of the Spirit of God.
1 John 3:24 (NKJV) Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.
1.4.1. The abiding presence of Jesus that provides the abiding determination to man.
2. The Promised Holy Spirit is poured out into our hearts to be our guarantee.
Ephesians 1:13-14 (NKJV) 13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory
2.1. When we were anointed with the Holy Spirit of promise.
2.1.1. Yes, we are anointed with Power from on High.
2.1.2. But the Lord needed a way to show us that we had His guarantee.
2.1.3. We are anointed and sealed.
2.2. With Guarantee:
2.2.1. a pledge
2.2.1.1. part of the purchase-money or property given in advance as security for the rest:
2.2.1.2. an earnest money which in purchases is given as a pledge 2.2.1.3. downpayment that the full amount will subsequently be paid
2.2.2. the earnest of the Spirit–that is, the Spirit as the earnest
2.2.3. The Holy Spirit is given to the believer now as a first installment to assure him his full inheritance as a son of God shall be his hereafter
2.2.4. The Spirit is the pledge of the fulfillment of “all the promises”. (Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown Commentary)
2.2.5. So we do not understand that the guarantee is not a we can do no wrong, no matter what, act how ever you like type of guarantee.
2.2.6. But instead is God pledge to us that having decided to live for Christ, in Christ, that we will have all that we need until we inherit the completed blessing of eternal life.
3. You were sealed with the Holy Spirit of Promise:
Ephesians 1:13-14 (NKJV) 13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
3.1. To set a seal upon:
3.1.1. To mark with a seal, since things sealed up are concealed (as the contents of a letter),
3.1.2. to hide, keep in silence, keep secret
Colossians 3:3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
3.2. (Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown Commentary) sealed–as God’s confirmed children, by the Holy Spirit as the seal. A seal impressed on a document gives undoubted validity to the contract in it. So the sense of “the love of God shed abroad in the heart by the Holy Ghost” (Ro 5:5), and the sense of adoption given through the Spirit at regeneration (Ro 8:15, 16), assure believers of God’s good will to them. The Spirit, like a seal, impresses on the soul at regeneration the image of our Father. The “sealing” by the Holy Spirit is spoken of as past once for all. The witnessing to our hearts that we are the children of God, and heirs (Eph 1:11), is the Spirit’s present testimony, the “earnest of the (coming) inheritance” (Ro 8:16-18).
3.3. We are a marked people:
3.3.1. To stamp and set a mark upon by the impressing of a seal
3.4. For security and preservation.
3.4.1. For security from the viles of satan.
3.4.2. Satan knows the children of God because we are marked.
3.4.3. But because we are marked he must gain permission before touching us
Conclusion:
- All the Promises are yes,
- We know this much because of the guarantee the Lord has placed within us.
- The Sealed and Guarantee is that there is always the full access to the abiding presence of God to see us through all the way to the end.
- The guarantee does not over look or disregard the condition of man’s heartbeat instead gives us access and all the tools wended to keep our hearts abiding in the Presence of the Lord until that great day.
