Let Us Not Forge All The Lord Has Done

James Weidner III   -

PS 106:13 They soon forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel 14 but lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, And tested God in the dessert.

James 1:25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

  • Maybe more importantly I want to remind you today.
  • We could all use many reminders of all the Lord has done for us.
  • The works of God in our life.
  • But first, let’s look into not being a people who forget.

1. People who forget do not wait on God’s and/or Godly counsel.

PS 106:13 They soon forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel

1.1. These people just go on about life steering their on way in the direction they desire without regard for counsel or wisdom…

2. Forgetting makes us susceptible to being easily tossed around.

James 1:25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

Ephesians 4:14-15 (NKJV) 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—

  1. We need to remember what we have been taught from the Word.
  2. “Carried about” like a raft in the ocean being swept away by the current.
  3. Every new doctrine cannot grab our attention like a new film dropped on YouTube of video posted on TikTok.
  4. Ela… People sometime send me TikTok video links and most of the time I just ignore them. On occasion I feel compelled to inform the individual that I do not open TickTock or really any video links. One guys says to me “TikTok is not the devil” my response was… “All of it is too distracting, the majority of it is useless, and the rest of it is the devil” hahahaha.
  5. People are cunning and given to trickery.

5.1. Never try to battle

3. Remembering empowers us to lead a steadfast life!

1 Peter 5:8-10 (NKJV) 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

3.1. Ela… I’m reminded of the steadfast life of Billy Graham… what we loved about people like Billy Graham the most: “An old preacher approached Billy Graham following the 1954 Harringay Arena Crusade in London. “I have come here every night” and listened to many different sermons, the minister told him, “and I have heard only one message.” It was a compliment, for he, like Billy Graham, knew that there is only one message that can bring real hope to a lost world. Billy Graham’s message has never changed, and it never will. It is a simple message, but one that comes straight from God’s Word. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16, NKJV).

3.2. We all need the SSS work of Christ in our life.

1 Peter 5:10 (NKJV) But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

3.3. The stabilizing – steadfast – settling work of Christ in our life.

3.3.1. Stabilizing work – establishing us.
3.3.2. The Steadfast work making us strong, firm, immovable, and solid.
3.3.2.1. Steadiness.
3.3.2.2. Steady doctrine. 3.3.2.3. Steady growth in Christ.

3.3.3. The settling work:

3.3.3.1. And to settle you: to lay the foundation, to be founded and to make one stable and established.

4. There are things to forget:

4.1. One of the aspects that settle us is forgetting and moving on from certain things.

4.2. But it would appear that most of these things to forget are the false assurances that we have in some way arrived or are better than others.

4.3. What things do we forget:

Philippians 3:12-14 (ESV) 12 Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

4.4. The Apostle pushed out of mind his accomplishments of his previous life.

4.5. 13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own.

4.6. There is no such thing as a self made man.
4.7. The temptation that we are good enough on our own. 4.8. Looks into the mirror and forgets.

5. Remembering is important.

Psalms 78:42 (ESV) 42 They did not remember his power or the day when he redeemed them from the foe,

Ezekiel 16:43-45 (NKJV) 43 Because you did not remember the days of your youth, but agitated Me with all these things, surely I will also recompense your deeds on your own head,” says the Lord GOD. “And you shall not commit lewdness in addition to all your abominations.

5.1. Make it a point to remember.
5.2. Your day of salvation.
5.3. The important people in your life.

Proverbs 27:10 Do not forget your friends or your father’s friends…

5.4. The encounters with the Lord as we journey.

5.5. Remember that what you sow each day matters.

Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.

5.6. Remembering to pray as “Jesus urges us to enter the Presence of God proclaiming our prayer promises.”

5.7. “Remembering no other but God can answer your prayers.” Bounds 5.8. Remember His day of power.
5.9. Remember your day of redemption.
5.10. Remember where you came from.

5.11. Remember the people who helped you along the way.
5.12. Remember your story and do not make up a new one.
5.13. Remembering God called you out of darkness into His glorious light.
